Day 1: Jorhat |

Welcome on arrival in Jorhat Airport/Station and transfer to Hotel. Jorhat also reckoned to be the cultural capital of Assam was the last capital of the Ahom Kingdom. Visit the Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar (Assamese monastery), Sukapha Samannay Kshetra (a memorial of King Sukapha, the first Ahom king of Asaam). Rest free at leisure. Overnight in Jorhat. |
Day 2: Jorhat - Mon (160kms/5.5hrs) |
After breakfast, transfer to Mon, Nagaland, the land of the Konyak tribes. Rest free at leisure. Overnight in Mon Guesthouse. The largest tribe in Nagaland is famed for their erstwhile practice of head hunting. The warrior men have tattooed faces and wear traditional jewellery along with feathered headgears. |
Day 3: Mon |
After breakfast, drive to Longwa village (41 kms) which is in the border of India and Burma. The inhabitants of the village, the Konyak Nagas, have dual citizenship. Infact, the Indo-Myanmar border passes through the Angh’s (Village Chief) house, with one half in India and the other in Myanmar! A village walk will acquaint a traveler to many amazing facts about the lifestyle of the tribes. In this village one can also see the traditional form of making opium. Later visit Chui Village (10 kms) and bear a witness to another ethnic village of the Konyak Naga tribe. Return to Mon.Overnight in Mon Guesthouse. |
Day 4: Mon - Mokokchung (8hrs) |
After breakfast, check out and visit the Shangnyu Village, a traditional village embedded with important historical significance. The Chief’s house is adorned with wooden carvings. A wooden structure, (12ft in width and 8ft in height) is beautifully carved and the local people reckon that it was built by angels to honour the people of the Village. Further, the majestic home of the Chief is believed to be built in the Metallic Age, about 500-600 years ago. Later proceed to Mokokchung the headquarter of the Ao Nagas. They are known for their colourful attires and are regarded of having the most motifs shawl among the Nagas, which usually speaks the person’s status in the community. Rest free at leisure. Overnight in Mokokchung. |
Day 5: Mokokchung |
Today explore some Ao villages- Impur village to visit the Museum which displays machines and tools which were used by the Missionaries. Later drive to Longkhum village (Ao village) which was known as the vanguard of the Ao region during the spear and dao era. As the village is situated at 1586 mt. above sea level we can see some part of Himalaya on a clear winter morning. Depending on the time of arrival, explore Mopunchket village bamboo forest. Overnight in Mokokchung guesthouse. |
Day 6: Mokokchung - Kohima |
Morning drive to Touphema Village Resort (115 kms/4.5 hrs) runs by the local Angami tribe. Explore the region by a short walk. After lunch, drive to Kohima (3 hrs), the capital of Nagaland. Rest free at leisure. Overnight in Kohima. |
Day 7: Kohima |
After breakfast visit the War Cemetery and the church. Drive to the Heritage Complex, the venue of the Hornbill festival. Afternoon visit Jakhama village to experience the real Angami Naga tribal way of living as you take a village walk. Overnight in Kohima. War Cemetery: The revered memorial commemorates the brave soldiers and warriors who laid their lives fighting the Japanese during the World War II. It is embellished by two tall crosses against the backdrop of seasonal roses & lush greenery. The base of the lower cross, is engraved with the lines: When you go home, tell them of us & say; For your tomorrow, we gave our today.The Catholic Cathedral at Aradura Hill in Kohima, is one of the biggest cathedrals in North-east India. Its splendid architecture makes it one of the important landmarks of Kohima. The unique design created by blending the traditional with the orthodox developed into an architectural marvel. A must-visit place in Kohima. |
Day 8: Day Excursion To Khonoma |
After breakfast drive to the Heritage Complex, the venue of the Hornbill festival. Later drive to Khonoma, the green village, Khonoma (20 kms/1 hr). Take a village walk and visit the Morungs (the age group house), the ceremonial gates and meet the local craftsmen. Collectively Khonoma was known for its fighting prowess in the past and for the fallow management of its alder trees which balance the nature and its surrounding areas. Later back to Kohima. Overnight at Kohima. |
Day 9: Dimapur Airport Departure |
After breakfast transfer to Dimapur Airport for onward journey. |
