DASADA
Dasada, also known as Little Rann of Kutch, is a small town
located in the Surendranagar district of Gujarat, India. The town is known for
its salt marshes and wetlands, which are home to a wide variety of flora and
fauna, including the Indian wild ass. Also visit Swaminarayan Temple
About The Place: Wild Ass Sanctuary, also known as the
Little Rann of Kutch, is a wildlife reserve located in the Indian state of
Gujarat. Spread over 4,953 square kilometers, this sanctuary is a popular
destination for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers from across the globe.
The sanctuary is home to the last remaining population of Indian Wild Ass,
which is a critically endangered species.
Apart from Indian Wild Ass, the sanctuary is also home to
various species of birds, making it a prime bird watching site. Bird
enthusiasts can witness various species of birds such as Greater Flamingos,
Eurasian Wigeon, Common Teal, and Demoiselle Crane, among others. The sanctuary
is situated in the Little Rann of Kutch, a vast expanse of salt desert, which
adds to the beauty and uniqueness of the place. The barren landscape of the
salt desert is dotted with shrubs and thorny bushes, providing a stark contrast
to the lush greenery of the surrounding areas.
The best time to visit Wild Ass Sanctuary is during winters,
between November and February, when migratory birds flock to the sanctuary. The
place transforms into a bird watcher's paradise during these months. Visitors
can also opt for jeep safaris to explore the sanctuary and spot wildlife. In
conclusion, Wild Ass Sanctuary is a must-visit destination for wildlife
enthusiasts and bird watchers. The unique landscape, coupled with the diverse
flora and fauna, make it a one-of-a-kind destination.
The Great Rann of Kutch (or Rann of Kutch seasonal salt
marsh) is a salt marsh in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat,
India. This famous desert of white salt is visible after monsoon season &
popular during sunrise & sunset. Very popular Rann Utsav is celebrated
here.
Rann Utsav started as a three-day celebration continuously
developed into a 100-day festivity at Dhordo, a town close to Rann of Kutch
where an entirely different makeshift camp has been made, loaded with
impermanent framework fabricated and revamped consistently.
Rann Utsav is one of the most enthusiastically awaited
occasion for travel in India, which praises the wonders of nature at the White
Desert and the rich social and creative legacy of Kutch.
North of the village of Khavda, Kalo Dungar (Black Hill)
marks Kutch’s highest point (462 m), with remarkable views of the Great Rann
salt flat (or inland sea if you’re visiting during the monsoon). You’ll need
your own transport to visit. The hill is also famous for a 400-year old temple
dedicated to Lord Dattatreya. You walk to the edge of the hill and look over at
the sprawling blanched landscape that changes hues as the day progresses and
the sun sinks behind the mountains. A 15-min drive from the base of the hill
lands you on the India bridge that connects the far north of Kutch to the
mainland. The area comes under the jurisdiction of the army and photography is
not allowed. The Indo-Pak border lies about 40 km north from here.
Brief History: Legends say that Lord Dattatreya stopped to
rest here and found a group of starving jackals. He offered them his body to
eat and as they ate, his body continually regenerated itself. For the last four
centuries, the priests at the temple prepare cooked rice for jackals who come
in the late evenings for a meal.
Bhuj is a city in the state of Gujarat, western India. It’s
known for its centuries-old buildings, many of which were damaged in a 2001
earthquake. Close to Harmirsar Lake, the 18th-century Aina Mahal palace is
elaborately decorated with chandeliers, mirrors and semi-precious stones.
Nearby, the Italian Gothic–style Prag Mahal palace has a bell tower that
overlooks the city, and a courtyard containing a Hindu temple.
MANDVI BEACH
The Mandvi beach is a stretch of golden-brown sand located
at the southernmost point of Gujarat's Kutch district. It is located south of
the main intersection, Bhuj. The beach is located in the same town as its name,
which historically had a busy port serving India. The historic part of the town
still has the fort wall from the former trading centre. The serene beach is a
welcome addition for visitors to the area. Evenings are especially wonderful
because of the sunset and all the activity from snack vendors to balloon vendors.
At the estuary where the river Rukmavati meets the Gulf of
Kutch, the Maharao of the princely state of Kutch founded this port town. It
was a significant commercial hub during the time. To house the Kharva families,
who were known for their expertise in crafting wooden ships, the settlement was
constructed inside of a fortified stronghold. The mid-fifteenth century saw the
construction of the defensive fortifications. Even though the fortress is no
longer very large, parts of it can still be seen.
Given that there are numerous water activities available
here, it is also the ideal location for adventure seekers. In addition, you may
go horseback riding and eat at some of the most mouthwatering food stands that
are located along the beach. Its intriguing windmills and rich history are two
things you definitely wouldn't want to miss.
VIJAYA VILAS PALACE
Vijaya Vilas Palace is a summer palace of ADITYA GELOT
Maharao of Kutch located on the beach of Mandvi in Kutch, Gujarat, India.
The central high dome on the pillars, the Bengal domes on
the sides, the windows with colored glass, carved stone 'jalis', domed bastions
at the corners, extended porch and other exquisitely stone-carved elements,
make the palace worth visiting.
This weathered 1920s palace lies 7 km west of Mandvi, amid
extensive orchards along a private beach. Originally a summer abode for the
Kutch rulers, its first floor is now the main residence of the elderly
Maharajah of Bhuj. The view from the roof is impressive and the rooms, with
their stuffed wildlife and faded grand furniture, are worth a peek. The
sandstone structure has extensive jali work, coloured glass, domed bastions and
murals and the influence of the Kutch community of artisans and their unique
style is evident.
The palace was built in the reign of Maharao Shri Khengarji
III, who was the Maharao of Kutch. It was meant to be a summer resort for his
son and heir to the kingdom, Yuvraj Shri Vijayaraji. The palace is named
‘Vijaya Vilas Palace’ after him. The construction of palace started in year in
1920 and completed in 1929. Shri Vijayaraji died in 1948. A chhatri (decorative
tombstone) in his memory stands on the premises of the palace.
